We all need a place where we can "sense check" our thinking, share ideas and glean some insights that we might not get from our usual internal networks and, as a result, reinforce our confidence and resolve to carry forward our ideas. We all need to be reassured that we stand up to scrutiny.
We know that being a senior lawyer/general counsel is a complex, difficult and demanding job these days and that all constructive support is likely to be very welcome.
Therefore, LBC now offers a coaching and mentoring service with one-to-one sessions in absolute confidence, giving some of the best and most up-to-date advice and guidance around. It is possible to buy a single session or a tailored programme specially designed for the individuals concerned.
Coaching
Programmes start with an initial meeting to consider particular development objectives. These might include building profile, leadership, managing change, team development, delegation skills, presentation skills and relationship management issues. After this there is total flexibility to run the agreed programme as it best suits the individual, but it would usually include a mix of one-to-one meetings and contact by phone and email. Our programmes run over six to twelve month periods and may be CPD accredited (subject to content).
Mentoring
Mentoring includes elements from the more formalised coaching programmes,
but is much more of a support mechanism - a place to share thoughts
and ideas and to have an opportunity to talk. We would normally recommend
setting up a series of off-site one-to-one meetings over the course
of a year and as much telephone and email contact between meetings
as is wanted. Sometimes just one meeting may be sufficient and, if
that’s all you want, then of course, that will present no problem.
"This is not about telling people what to do, it is about sharing experience and insights that help accelerate decisions and improve their quality. It’s also about lending real support and encouragement in one of the more lonely roles in any corporation." - Paul Gilbert, Chief Executive, LBC |
Generally we work with the senior lawyer/general counsel, but it is possible to devise programmes that would suit less senior lawyers, especially those being groomed for succession or with identified development needs.
