Objectives
- To describe the key competencies of being an in-house lawyer.
- To map individual or team experience against a suggested competency
profile for different roles.
- To provide the “tool kit” that will enable monitoring and
evaluation of skills leading. to tailored development programmes for
all lawyers.
Course Content
This workshop takes a detailed look at eight different key competencies
for in-house lawyers based on research undertaken for the Law Society
and CEDR. The eight key competencies are:
- Strategy and business acumen
- Leadership
- Management of finances and resources
- Client relationship management
- Management of external lawyers
- Management of individual/teams
- Communication
- Managing oneself
Each is considered in turn, analysed and mapped against different lawyer roles,
building a picture of the skills sets required and indicating the potential development
needs for the future.
