…Not everything is an opportunity. Not everyone has time to pause. Sometimes I feel it is too hard to be positive, too frightening to be brave and too uncertain to be strong. The morning breaks and sadness is the first feeling of the day. One day at a time feels daunting enough.
I value and appreciate everyone who can post a kind, hopeful and energetic message, but for me right now I want nothing more than for this to pass and for those I love to be on the other side to work with again, to hold again and to care for again.
I heard Fergal Keane read a poem the other day and it felt like a good thing to share:
“This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.
Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light.
If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.”
John O’Donohue, To Bless the Space Between Us: A Book of Blessings
