Deborah joined SOAS University of London as Director Legal and Governance in 2019 having previously spent almost 12 years as Head of Legal at the British Council.  Whilst there she was responsible for legal services in 115 countries globally, supporting an organization with a turnover of around £1 billion, one of the country’s largest charities.  Prior to joining the British Council, she spent 12 years in senior legal roles in multi-national professional services organisations, including as European General Counsel and as Director Legal Services.  Deborah started her legal career as a Property Development solicitor at Macfarlanes, having qualified there in 1990.  She has an LLB from University of Bristol and a MSc from Kings College London.
