Ian began his career specialising in advocacy and advising on criminal, civil and family law.  He then moved in-house working mainly for financial services and retail companies rising to be Chief Legal Officer/Company Secretary.  This led him to develop an expertise in corporate governance and working with boards on effectiveness and performance.

Ian now works as a consultant.  His practice encompasses:

  • Board Effectiveness Review for organisations including FTSE 100s, major private companies, mutuals, private equity backed, public sector and not for profit ones.
  • Coaching.  He is an APECS (Association for Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision) Certified Professional Executive Coach coaching NEDs, senior executives and GCs.  He is currently training as a team coach.
  • Training and Development.  He is the Course Director for Cranfield NED Programme and an Adjunct Ashridge Business School.
  • Mediation: CEDR Accredited Mediator.

Ian is also the co-author of Your Role as General Counsel: How to Survive and Thrive published by Globe Law and Business and the forthcoming Professional Development for In-House Lawyers though he is working on a more exciting title for this to ensure it sells!
