Vicky is Pearson’s Associate General Counsel for Strategy and Special Initiatives. Pearson is the world’s largest education company with over 35,000 employees globally helping people of all ages to make measurable progress in their lives. Pearson’s legal function is comprised of about 160 people located globally across 5 continents.
Vicky joined Pearson’s educational publishing business in 1997 as its only lawyer outside the US. Whilst her role initially was to support Pearson’s growing education business in Europe Middle East and Africa, her remit grew and by 2014 she was responsible for leading a team providing legal support to all of Pearson’s education businesses outside of North America; managing teams based in UK, Australia, China and India and dealing with a broad spectrum of strategic legal matters, business critical contracts, major litigation and significant integrity issues in sub-Saharan Africa.
In 2014 she was promoted to her present role where she has been instrumental in the transformation of Pearson’s legal teams to create a global legal function. She has led the legal operations team in implementing a major change programme involving substantial process improvement and new systems including e-billing, contract management and e-signature. Vicky has also created a centrally managed ‘shared service’ contracts team streamlining work, simplifying processes and focusing on value added activities.
Although she has been with Pearson for a long-time Vicky says she has never been bored and has truly embraced Pearson’s strapline as she is ‘Always Learning’. Vicky gets the most satisfaction from her job when she finds solutions to seemingly intractable problems.
