Richard has been Deputy General Counsel at the global bank, HSBC, since September 2011. He is responsible for overseeing the worldwide legal and contract management teams responsible for key supplier relationships. His initial focus is on the critical infrastructure requirements of all the different global businesses and the contractual fundamentals supporting them.
Prior to joining HSBC, Richard was Director of Legal at the IT company Cisco. His role was to manage the legal team across LATAM, Caribbean, Africa, Middle East, Central & Eastern Europe, Russia/CIS and Pakistan. He drives effective and timely decision-making for complex business as a key business partner to other stakeholders. Richard is natural disrupter who regularly re-works the way legal services are provided, challenging all pre-conceptions and constantly striving to find better ways to use technology for the delivery of legal services.
Richard is an alumni of the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Derringer and of Cambridge University (spending far more time playing rugby than in the lecture halls!). He lives in Devon and is married to a fabulous garden designer who now has set up and runs a luxury safari lodge campsite at their home in Devon (shameless plug). He is blessed with 2 young (and boisterous) children as well as a Volkswagen 1965 Type 2 Split Screen campervan and a Goldoni Euro Tractor, the last two of which remind him regularly that slower is often better!
